Elected Official of the Year 2015 Press Release

newbanner4 In April 2011 I was honored and humbled by the voters of District 6 who elected me again to serve on Fort Collins City Council.  Serving you on the current Council and previously in 1981-1994 have been some of the most rewarding times of my life.  I learned that a well-functioning local government can make a difference in our lives and the future of our community.  More good work needs to be done. If re-elected, I will continue to work for you.  It means working for a healthy economy and support for local business.  The City’s support of the CSU Powerhouse, redevelopment of Foothills Mall, and the retention of Woodward are examples of my work for a healthy economy. It means working for clean air, clean water, protection of our open spaces, and improvements to our trail system.  I led the successful efforts to increase trail funding by $750K per year.  I worked on the open space citizen’s committee which resulted in successful passage for the extension of the county open space tax.  This tax provides the City’s Natural Areas Program with over $3 million yearly. It means working to make sure our neighborhoods remain an important backbone of Fort Collins; safe, friendly neighborhoods are essential for a healthy, thriving community.  I have worked with neighborhoods, including Avery Park, to provide city resources needed to improve their areas. This district has a history of strong, principled, pragmatic, progressive leadership, and I need your vote to make sure this continues.  I look forward to an honest campaign that allows me to listen to your thoughts about District 6 and the City of Fort Collins.  If you have any questions or wish to speak with me, please contact me at 970-217-2993 or gerryhorak@yahoo.com.
